Athletes of the Month

Each month MD recognizes student-athletes who demonstrate team work, drive,
determination & outstanding contribution to Mustangs Athletics.

Congratulations to February Athletes of the Month!

Emily Smith (Swimming)

Emily has been a strong leader on Swim Team for 3 years. She supports younger swimmers by showing skills and encouraging them during practice. As in the past, she has qualified for an individual OFSAA event (100 m Butterfly) and helped the Girls 4x100 m Free Relay team qualify as well. She has shown consistent work ethic, leadership, and sportsman-like behaviour in and out of the pool.

Kate Fletcher (Jr. Girls Volleyball)

Kate is very devoted, committed, and driven to be the very best she can be at her art. Kate is a competitive triathlete outside of school and has devolved a passion for athletics. Kate was new to volleyball at the beginning of the season, but she was aware that she was capable of becoming a great player. To become a better player, Kate attended every practice and game to learn from her coaches and peers. She is determined on a daily basis to perform well no matter if it's at practice, during a game, or in the classroom. As coaches, we consider Kate as one of the hardest workers on the team, but also a leader by her actions. As a result of her commitment to becoming a better player, Kate improved her court awareness, serving, hitting, and blocking. She quickly became a starter and helped lead the team to many regular season wins and a victory in the quarterfinals. Great work Kate!

The Junior Boys Basketball team completed the most successful season in recent boys history finishing the season with a 19-4 record and a Tier 1 Halton Championship.  This feat that hasn't been completed in almost 30 years at Milton District.  The teams accomplishments along the way included victory's in both the CK and MD tournaments and a 2nd place in the Hayden tournament.  The boys finished the Halton regular season with a 7-3 record that included 2 loses to Iroquois Ridge.  With lessons learned from those 2 losses the team defeated IR 69-68 on February 20th at Sheridan College in the Championship Final! Congrats to the team for their incredible season!  Team members are: Matthew Oliver, Easton Sarich, Jackson Robinson, Shaun Matheson, Sufyaan Khan, Arandjel Dimitrijevic, Sheldon Winter, Shafay Khilji, Austin Daniels, Tyler Chisholm, Tayshaun Free, Mustafa Abdulrahman and Jackson Tovell.  Special thanks to outside coach Scott Chisholm for his amazing work with the team!
