The French Program offers two streams, Core and Immersion, in grades 9 to 12. There is an emphasis on both oral and written competencies through the study of literature, film and culture. For our Immersion students, in addition to the French language courses, we offer a broad range of subjects such as visual and dramatic arts and social sciences such as geography and history.

Core French
  • All students in Grade 9 must take Core French (unless stated otherwise in an Individual Education Plan)
  • Core French is offered in both the Academic and Applied streams
  • Core French is also offered to Grade 10, 11 & 12.  These courses follow the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR)
  • Action oriented tasks in a range of authentic situations
  • Opportunity to write the DELF Exam in Grade 12
  • Opportunity to participate in the HDSB French Public Speaking Contest
How do I know which course to take, Academic or Applied?
  • If all of your courses (English, Math, Science & Geography) are Academic, French must also be Academic.
