Specialist High Skills Major

The Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) program is a Pathways program that allows students to focus their learning on a career path that matches their skills and interests.  SHSM programs include a compulsory bundle of 8 to 12 Grade 11 and 12 courses, industry certification/training and experiential learning from the chosen sector.  Students in Grade 11 and 12 choose a major sector areas such as:

New for fall 2019
McMcMaster University, Faculty of Social Sciences has created a new advanced credit program.

The credit recognizes the achievement of specific SHSM programs.  Eligible students can receive credit for one three-unit course.  The students receives this course credit at not cost, saving at least $640.00 as they will have one less course to take towards their chosen degree.

How can students received the credit?
  1. Complete an eligible SHSM* program
  2. Obtain a minimum 85% final admission average on the six U/M courses assessed for program entrance.
  3. Enroll in Social Sciences 1, Economics 1 or Heath & Society 1
  4. Provide their final transcript with completed SHSM credit form to the Office of the Associate Dean.
