Memories from the 1960's

In 1960, the Williams Avenue school was opened and has remained here to welcome students ever since, with nine classrooms, two science rooms, a business room, a gymnasium, stage, change rooms and showers.  The school's capacity was 360 students.  Classes still continued at the Martin Street location.  Students walked across town for some classes at the new school.

In the 1960s the Football Team was CWOSSA B Champions.  

In 1962, the First Mr. MDHS, Paul Martin was crowned.  

In 1962 the Hockey Team was  CWOSSA Champions.

In 1965, all high school students were housed in the Williams Avenue location.  Martin Street continued as a Senior Public School.  The dome from the top of the school was removed.   Science, Technology & Trades, Business & Commerce, Occupations, Art & Music were now offered at the high school.

In 1966-67, the Boys Soccer Team was crowned Champions.

Valedictorians for the 60s included:  Brian Kerninghan, Carl Hansen, Bernice Moore, Gwen Wilson, Ronald Berube, Paul Kerninghan, Jean Wilson, Laurie Sinclair, Kenneth Brown & Gordon Timbers.

Miss MDHS recipients included Bette Marsh, Peggy McLeod, Angela Johnson, Carol Forbes, Doreen Carney, Carol Wood, Susan French, Shirley Bridgeman, Sharon Cox & Mirella Multari.

Mr. MDHS recipients included Paul Martin, Brian McDuff, Leon Stickle, Carlo Marcantonio, Bob Lloyd, Trevor Houston, Robert Lee, Keith Bridgeman, Jim Marshall.
